Latest Position of the Wage Earners's Housing Complex Project (Gulshan North Baridhara)

Bureau of Manpower, Employment & Training (BMET) has informed their latest position of the Wage Earners Housing Project (under construction) at Gulshan (North Baridhara) through their letter No. Kallyan Tahbil - 12677/07/11320 dated 10 December 2007. Summary of that letter is as follows:

Wage Earners Housing Project at Gulshan (North Baridhara) was undertaken to create the housing facilities for our Expatriates' living in different countries. Project includes in addition to other facilities construction of 500 flats of different sizes.
On advertisement for the flats of that project, BMET received 1339 applications from the Wage Earners living abroad. The applicants are now approaching the on BMET, Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment and the Missions abroad to let them know the latest position of their application for the flats. Hence BMET wants to disclose the information relating to flat constructions and allotment as follows:
1. 1339 applications were received from the expatriates of different categories for different sizes of flat 1800 sft., 1500 sft., 1200 sft. and 1000 sft. etc.
2. 476 applicants have been selected by open lottery.
3. But the result of lottery could not be made public for the cause of uncertainty of work completion of the project.
4. Arrangement has been made in the BMET to let the applicants know their fate of lottery. In this regard Deputy Director (Welfare) may be contacted over telephone no + 88-02-8351769.
5. By this time, construction work of the project has been completed up to 10-11%. Out of 6 buildings, 1 building has been completed up to Level -03, another one up to Level - 02 and the rest 4 at the stage of completing the piling work.
6. The contractors postponed the construction work on the plea of price escalation of construction materials and filed two Arbitration Misc. Case with the Court. For that reason, the result of the lottery of the flats could not be made public.
7. BMET, Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment and the Wage Earner's Welfare Board are taking necessary measures to resolve the issue.
8. In response to the contractors' arbitration case, BMET has initiated the arbitration proceedings. As a result, retired Chief Justice Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury and retired Justice Sayed Amirul Islam have been appointed as an umpire and arbitrator.
9. Wage Earner's Welfare Board decided on its 160th board meeting (22/02/2007) to allow the applicants to take the security money back on their desire. Accordingly, by this time, 38 applicants have taken their security money back.
10. It is expected that on completion of the arbitration proceedings, the result of the lottery for the flats will be published soon.
11. It has been decided to refund security deposit to thoseapplicants who will apply for it. Details can be seen in the circurar & nomination form.
